Judith Harbour, LCSW

Biography

Judith Harbour is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York City who specializes in working with individuals and families who are experiencing stress related to caring for a companion animal or are grieving the loss of a companion animal. She also works with veterinary professionals to address issues related to compassion fatigue. In addition to veterinary social work, Judith serves as a social worker at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. This position necessitates addressing a range of patient issues including mental health crises, domestic violence and child abuse, elder issues, and loss and bereavement.

Judith came to the field of veterinary social work after over 10 years of working as a support professional in a busy New York City veterinary clinic and seeing firsthand the gap in support for both clients and veterinary staff alike. Judith's clinical experience includes working with children and adults with developmental disabilities with a focus on caregiver support, anxiety management, social skills training, and self-advocacy training. Previously, Judith provided intensive family therapy for court-involved and mentally ill youth, and, in this capacity, provided crisis coaching by phone and in person while on call.

Judith provides person-centered and individualized treatment from an integrative perspective and has expertise in adapting interventions for people with diverse learning and communication styles. Judith is accepting and compassionate and values taking the time to engage with people who are new to therapy or unsure about the process. Judith has worked in the field of social work for 7 years.
