Atheeqa Aijaz

Veterinary Social Work Intern

Biography

Atheeqa received her Bachelor of Arts in Geological Science at the State University of Geneseo in New York.  She spent several years working in the environmental sustainability field prior to enrolling in the University of Tennessee’s Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW).  Atheeqa volunteered with the YWCA’s victim advocacy program and Knoxville Leadership Foundation’s mentoring program, giving her a breadth of experience working with diverse children and youth.  She is currently a graduate assistant at UT’s Center for Global Engagement, where she provides assistance and immigration-related resources to international students.  

Atheeqa currently interns with the Veterinary Social Work team at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine.  She is interested in providing trauma-informed and evidence-based counselling services to college students, with a special interest in increasing accessibility of mental health resources and education opportunities to women of color.  

In Atheeqa’s free time she enjoys cooking indian food, reading non-fiction, spending time outdoors, and loving on her pet cat George.
