Lindsay Cooney

Concurrent MSSW/VSW Graduate

Biography

Lindsay received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky in December of 2015. During her undergraduate study, she had the opportunity to work at Lexington Humane Society as an Animal Care Technician/Adoption Specialist. This sparked her interest in animal human relationships. A professor who knew of this interest informed her of the University of Tennessee’s offering of the Veterinary Social Work Certificate Program. Lindsay graduated with her MSSW and VSW-CP in May of 2017 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

After graduation, Lindsay moved to Wisconsin where she will be working as an Animal Care Specialist at a special needs animal sanctuary. In this position, she will be providing for the basic needs of the animals, as well as participating in therapeutic outreach programming. Lindsay came upon this job through an internet job search for master level social work positions specified to animal welfare. Her long term goal would be to return to the south after gaining some experience in the Veterinary Social Work profession, and advocate for policy change in relation to animal welfare.
