Biography

Mary Behrends graduated from University of Illinois with a BS in Home Economics Education with a specialty in Child Development and Family Relationships in 1977 and worked as a full time mom and homemaker for 10 years.  She started working with abused children and their families in 1992 and continued  in child welfare for the next 20 years.  In 2009, she started the MSW program at University of Georgia and graduated in 2012.  She is currently employed full time with Benchmark Human Services as part of a mental health/substance abuse mobile crisis team and part time with Mustard Seed Counseling as a therapist specializing in canine assisted therapy.  Her dog, Nick, and she work mostly with children and adolescents and are building the first AAT program in Northeast Georgia.
