Sonya Snyder

Intern

Biography

Sonya received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Tennessee in December of 2009. After receiving her BA, Sonya obtained her Master of Philosophy in Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in May of 2012. Sonya is now beginning her second year as a student in the Master of Science in Social Work program at the University of Tennessee.

Sonya’s interest in Veterinary Social Work stems from a lifelong love of animals and interest in human-animal interactions. While working as a high school teacher, she found she also had a passion for working with underprivileged teens. She hopes to combine these interests in her future studies and career. Last year, Sonya completed an internship with Knox County Schools, where she implemented a H.A.B.I.T. (Human-Animal Bond in Tennessee) program at Central High School. She and her H.A.B.I.T. dog, Mr. Fraggles, began spending time working with students at Central, and will continue to do so this year. In her spare time, Sonya also works as a volunteer with H.A.L.T. (Humans and Animals Learning Together). Sonya is also the intern for the VSW program at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine.
