How to access a veterinary social worker
Veterinary Social Work is available Monday-Friday from 10 am until 5 pm.
Your UT Veterinary Medical Center medical team may invite Veterinary Social Work to support you during your animal’s care or you can request support directly.
Dedicated Helpline: 865-755-8839
Former and current pet owners seeking help, support, and/or resources can call our helpline Monday-Friday 10 am to 5 pm. If we are not immediately available we will return your call as soon as possible.
There are office hours for two of our Veterinary Social Workers. Currently, these are being held online via telehealth.

Our Daytime Support Group meets three times a week and is available for people to share their varied experiences with complex decisions, discussions about quality of life, balancing financial responsibilities, and resources regarding animal-related issues.
Our Pet Loss Support Group provides a supportive environment where people can share their varied experiences of grief and loss, a place to remember and honor the life of our pets, and an opportunity to learn additional ways of coping with the loss of an animal.
Further Services with a VSW’er
For counseling or coaching sessions with one of our Veterinary Social Workers, we have a more structured and private service through a dedicated EHR. To sign up for services with us in this way please follow this link and fill out the forms as directed. Someone will be in contact with you once those forms are complete.
