Concurrent MSSW/VSW Graduate
Q. What is your undergraduate degree in? Where did you earn and it and when?
I have a BS in Psychology, in Dec 2013 at Appalachian State University (Boone, NC).
Q. What brought you to the VSW-CP?
I was encouraged to look into the program by a friend who attended the Veterinarian College at UTK, because I wanted to combine my undergrad and my passion for working at the animal clinic.
Q. Where did you complete your field placement?
My first year I did my placement at Connection for Kids (working in the home with children under the age of 15). This year I had my placement at New Beginnings, working with at risk homeless youth.
Q. Where will you be working and what will you be doing?
I do not have a job currently lined up but the ones that I have applied to and I look forward to the most are a student activity coordinator at the College of Vet. Medicine at NC State University OR a high school counselor where I could hopefully use animal therapy!
Q. Do you have any long term goals or dreams?
My long term goals include certifying my cat as a therapy animal, and adopting a dog that can meet the standards as a therapy dog as well. My dreams is to open a therapeutic farm, for older adolescents. I would also like to work in a vet clinic in the mean time helping vets and those who work in the field.
Q. What was the most rewarding part of the VSW Certificate Program for you?
The most rewarding part of earning my certificate is being able to help those that I look up to so much (veterinarians and techs) and that have helped me and my animals.
I love this program, and I am so glad I was able to be apart of this community. I now have a network of people that I can call my friends and cohort, there is never a shortage of support in the people I have connected with.
